How Decor Pikmin Work: Death, Candypop Buds, and Priority

Decor Pikmin come with a few unique rules that make them worry-free to collect:

  • They cannot be permanently lost. If a Decor Pikmin dies, its decor is briefly left behind before vanishing. The next Pikmin of that same type pulled from the Onion will be wearing the same decor.
  • They cannot change type. Decor Pikmin cannot be thrown into Candypop Buds, even if they are your only Pikmin of that type — they simply land on the open flower and slide off.
  • They get priority. When you call Pikmin out of an Onion or pluck one to hold, the game always hands you a Decor Pikmin before a regular one.

Tips for Tracking Down Every Decor Pikmin

  • Read the area hints. Each hint in the Decopedia nudges you toward the right landmark — for example, "It's standing watch over a sandcastle" points to the Roe-tund White Pikmin atop the sandcastle near the Blossoming Dunes base.
  • Search corners and clutter. Most Decor Pikmin hide in nooks: behind potted plants, under bridges and spades, inside crevasses, and along walls.
  • Check unusual elevations. Some spots are easy to miss, like the Knightly Blue Pikmin tucked between the window wall and baskets on the upper desk in Hero's Hideaway, or The S.S. Blue Pikmin sitting underwater in a coral bed.
  • Use bases as anchors. Nearly every decor sits near a base, cave entrance, or cave exit, so sweep the surroundings whenever you unlock a new one.
  • Enjoy Dingo's notes. Each Decopedia entry includes a joke from Dingo, such as his warning about the Tempting-Tiles White Pikmin: "Do. Not. Knock. Them. Over!"
